The art courses, both at the elementary and secondary levels, encourage students not only to improve their fine motor skills, but they also offer intellectual challenges. This allows their artistic tendencies to develop. Projects are theme-based and are expressed in a variety of ways such as; discovering a new artist and their technique, the use of many different materials, and learning about artistic trends.
As the students become engaged in art, their projects become more personal to them. Also, teaching the cultural and historical aspects of visual arts allows the students to use their imaginations. This gives the teacher the opportunity to act as a guide, as students learn to express themselves artistically.
