Selwyn Math Teachers Connect with Old Boys on Inspiring Visit to Chicago

On November 6, Mr. Elbling and Mrs. Sayegh visited the University of Chicago (UC) to spend time on campus with current UC students and Selwyn Old Boys' Louis Girard '22, Alessandro Lecavalier '20, Mikhael Auerbach '22, and Jean-Alexandre Monty '22 as well as with Luke Kalaydjian '17 who graduated from the University just last spring.

While there, our Selwyn math teachers got to visit the spectacular campus and sit in on classes alongside their former students. It was such a thrill to see how some of our most gifted mathematics students have earned the opportunity to pursue mathematics, data science, architecture and economics at such a prestigious institution, well known for the disproportionate number of Nobel Prize winners they count among their alumni.

While in the greater Chicago area, Mr. Elbling and Mrs. Sayegh also visited Mount Carmel High School, an all boys school and a fellow member of the International Boys School Coalition (IBSC). During their visit they sat in on classes, chatted with students and discussed teaching strategies, activities and projects that best suit boys learning in a mathematics classroom. Selwyn House extends our heartfelt appreciation to the professors at the University of Chicago, the faculty, staff and administration at Mount Carmel High School and of course our Old Boys, for their warmth and hospitality.  Keep up the great work Gentlemen!
