Dr. Aman Abye Inspires the Selwyn House Community with Insights on Performance

Selwyn House School was honoured to welcome Dr. Aman Abye, a performance therapist to elite professional athletes, for a two-day visit on February 11 and 12. Engaging with students and staff from K to Grade 12, he led insightful discussions on performance, resilience, and well-being. Through interactive focus groups, assemblies, in-class sessions, and teacher meetings, he emphasized that the principles of peak performance extend beyond sports, shaping success in academics, the arts, and personal growth.

Dr. Abye reinforced the importance of balancing mental and physical well-being, discipline, and continuous learning. He was particularly impressed by students' awareness of the brain-body connection, noting, “They understood the need to protect and take care of their brain.” Many resonated with his concept of “working smarter versus working harder.”

His visit culminated in the inaugural session of Unleash Your Potential: Sport Performance Speaker Series, sponsored by Pembroke Management in partnership with the Concussion Legacy Foundation. Dr. Abye was joined by Old Boy Tim Fleiszer ’92 and CFL Hall of Famer Anthony Calvillo for a dynamic discussion on peak performance, resilience, and applying elite training principles to everyday life. Their conversation underscored the value of preparation, mindset, and adaptability—whether in sports, academics, or professional settings. Parents gained valuable insights into the long-term benefits of introducing high-performance concepts early, while also recognizing that each student’s journey is unique.

A former professional football player and renowned performance expert, Dr. Abye shared practical strategies for optimizing both physical and cognitive resilience. Drawing from his extensive experience with NBA, MLB, and NFL athletes, he provided the Selwyn community with actionable techniques for enhancing focus, energy management, and overall well-being.
