Baking for Math in Grade 5

On April 4, the 5B students combined math and culinary skills in our "Baking with Fractions" STEM activity. They applied their understanding of fractions (adding, subtracting, simplifying, reducing, and converting improper fractions) to "solve" a recipe problem. This helped them determine the precise amounts of ingredients needed to bake oatmeal chocolate chip muffins. It was a great example of a real-world application and how delicious math can be! A huge thanks to Ms. Parnas and the Sodexo kitchen staff for letting us use their ovens and for the fun behind-the-scenes kitchen tour. - Ms. Paracholski, Mme Fera, Ms. Kelsey and Ms. Miller, Elementary School teachers
