24 Hours for the Unhoused - open to MS & SS students and alumni - ends at 1:00 p.m.

Tuesday night, November 12, myself and around 25 other students will be sleeping in the school yard for the 24 Hours for the Unhoused.
You must RSVP to Dave Grier if you wish to participate.

On a side note, we started this event in 2014 and thanks to the Selwyn community and special thanks to Michelle Segal, the event this year will be more impactful than ever. Our schedule from around 16:00 onwards is "jam" packed:

Tuesday - 13:00 - 24 Hours for the Unhoused begins
Tuesday - Resilience Montréal  - 16:30 - 17:30 - Will be presenting their mission, their vision and their work. Nakuset from Resilience Montreal is hoping to have a homeless person that she works with also present and offer testimonials to "the boys".
Tuesday - Bread & Beyond - 17:30 to 19:30 - The boys will be making sandwiches for local food banks and food dépots. Silvana and Sodexo have generously and once again offered to provide us with the necessary ingredients for the sandwich making.
Tuesday - Stepping Up - 19:00 - 19:30 - Sock drive - see below
Tuesday - Dans La Rue - 19:45 - 21:15 - Dans La Rue will be coming to talk to the boys, answer questions and offer testimonials. Dans La Rue has confirmed that they will be bringing their "roulotte/van" and will be serving hot dogs and hot chocolate.
Tuesday - 22:00 - Start getting ready for bed.
Wednesday - 8:15 - School day starts
Wednesday - 13:00 - 24 Hours for the Unhoused ends.
We are still collecting donations of new socks and cans of soup and we kindly ask that each of you contribute to this collection and please speak to your friends to bring to school next week as well.

Please remember to come to school prepared with everything you’ll need for the day, overnight, and the following day for school. As you will be spending the night outdoors, ensure you bring appropriate clothing to stay warm and comfortable. If you have your own sleeping bags, you are welcome to bring them and if you need please let us know and we will borrow some from the Outdoor Ed department.

If you have any questions or if your plans change, please let us know.

Looking forward to seeing you there!

Ms. Segal and Mr. Grier

The sock drive: This year we are hoping to collect socks for a local facebook (see Stepping Up link below) organization that has been collecting socks and donating them to the different shelters and social assistance organizations in Montreal. This organization called Stepping Up has been collecting and donating socks for about 10 years now. On this note and due to a little gap in planning, we have not done so well in collecting new socks. As such, I am hoping that if you are out and about over the weekend and the next week or so, that you could pick up a pair of socks or two and drop them in one of the boxes located on the second floor in the middle school and in front of the drama room in the senior school.
