Legacy Giving

1908 LEGACY CIRCLE

Portals to Knowledge – Pathways to Truth

Did you know that you could leave a legacy to Selwyn House School through as simple an action as creating a gift in your will? A number of visionary Old Boys have taken this significant decision. Through their legacy gifts they aim to create new leaders and empower the next generation of boys to succeed in learning and in life.

Join the Circle

For more information on these kinds of gifts, or to let us know if you have already made a legacy gift to Selwyn House School, please contact Sharon Cozens, Director of Advancement at 514-931-9481 x 2269 or email her at cozenss@selwyn.ca. Our goal is to have 70 legacy donors to celebrate the next 70 years of the Old Boys’ Association. Download information for bequest wording here.

Pay it forward

Michael Whitehead ’78 is grateful for what he learned and experienced at SHS. “My personal value system dates from my time at Selwyn and the examples that were set for me. I want to pay it forward to honour the gifts and good experiences that people gave me.”

In gratitude

Chris Eich ’97 cherishes his experience at Selwyn House. “I’m grateful for the life lessons I was given and for the friends I still have to this day, the lifelong connection to a community.” He has made the Veritas Fund a beneficiary in his will and hopes that others will be motivated to do the same. “The amount doesn’t matter - the action is significant.”

A way to give more

Making the school the beneficiary of a gift in your will is a simple means of making a larger gift than would be possible during your lifetime. It has no impact on your current assets, cash flow or your lifestyle. It can also reduce, or even eliminate, the tax burden on your beneficiaries, since your estate will receive a tax receipt for your gift. There are other ways to leave a legacy such as making us beneficiary of a life insurance policy or, in most provinces, the beneficiary of all, or a percentage of, your RRSP/RRIF or TFSA.

Facts

  • The 1908 Legacy Circle is named for the year of the founding of Selwyn House School by Algernon Lucas, the first headmaster.
