Shen H. Represents Canada at World Karate Championship

At the end of October, Grade 11 student Shen H. participated in the World Karate Championship in Takasaki, Japan as a proud member of the 84 strong Team Canada. Shen fought in the very competitive 16-18 yrs category and around 2000 competitors from across the world showed up for this esteemed event. Shen has been devoted to this very demanding sport/discipline since the age of 6 and, since earning his black belt in the spring of 2023, has competed twice for Canada on the international stage. In this most recent championship, he made it to the quarter finals in the skills portion. Shen: ‘’it was very impressive to witness firsthand the skills displayed mostly by the Japanese competitors for whom Karate is embedded in culture and taught to all from a very young age. I was proud to represent Canada and I will never forget this experience.’’

Congratulations to Shen on this incredible achievement and for reapresenting Canada with such dedication and pride on the world stage!
