21st Annual Colin No’97 Basketball Classic

The 21st Annual Colin No’97 Basketball Classic, held on January 22, was a fantastic celebration, bringing together Old Boys from across the years. This event not only provided a great opportunity for alumni to reconnect and stay active but also celebrated the legacy of Colin No '97. The tournament featured a round-robin format with three teams: Black, White, and Blue, culminating in an exciting final between Teams Black and White, where Team Black emerged victorious. A special shout-out goes to Jack Ladenheim ’21, whose back-to-back three-pointers and impressive layups helped lead Team White to the final round.

The evening saw 14 Old Boys, 9 staff members, and 3 special guests in attendance, including former staff member Scott Macdonell, whose spirited banter kept the crowd energized throughout the night. The atmosphere was electric, with buzzer sounds ringing out during free throws, adding an extra layer of intensity to the competition. A big thank you to referee Matt McCarney for his expert officiating, and to scorekeepers Pete Govan and Jon Merritt ’04 for keeping track of the action.

Philip Clark ’05, who also organizes the Old Boys’ Wednesday Night Pickup Basketball League from September to May in the Macaulay Gym, was back on the court with his signature move. He drove baseline for a reverse layup, just as he did back in his Grade 7 days! If you’re looking for another chance to play and connect with fellow alumni, consider joining the Wednesday Night league by reaching out to him at clarkp@gmail.com.

More than just a night of basketball, the event was a meaningful opportunity to raise funds for the Colin No ’97 Memorial Fund. Since its creation, the fund has raised an impressive $352,907, with this year’s event contributing $11,570 to this important cause. The 21st Annual Colin No ’97 Basketball Classic was another outstanding example of the strength and spirit of the Selwyn House community. We can’t wait for next year’s event and all the exciting moments it will bring!
