Jodie Kanenstenhawi Norton Shares First Nations History with Grade 10
On May 3, as part of our efforts toward reconciliation, especially within the context of our History of Quebec and Canada course, Selwyn House School had the honour of hosting Jodie Kanenstenhawi Norton. Grade 10 students were able to ask her questions about the 1990 Kanehsatà:ke Resistance (Oka Crisis) and federal military intervention, a current topic of study. She also spoke to the boys about the cultural genocide of Indigenous people in Canada and, her family's experience with the residential school system. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Jodie for enriching our students' understanding with her invaluable experiences and knowledge. - Ms. Thériault, Senior School Social Science Department Head
