Kindergarten & Grade 11 Collaborate on Art in Mathematics

The AP Calculus class welcomed the Kindergarten class into the Macaulay Building for a series of lessons themed around art in mathematics this May. With the help of Ms. Foran, the Senior School Art teacher, the Grade 11 students organized an activity on using geometric shapes to create optical illusions. This lesson culminated in a collaborative colouring project with groups containing a mix of Grade 11 and Kindergarten students. Another lesson focused on fractals and similarity, culminating in the creation of small and large snowflakes, which are spectacular examples of fractals in nature. It was a special treat for our lifers to be lesson-planning with their former Kindergarten teacher, Ms. Tonkin! - Ms. Sayegh, Senior School Mathematics Department Head
