CSSHL X SHS Power Play Event with Jonathan Goldbloom '72
An excited group of over 80 parents and students met on February 28 to learn more about Selwyn's acceptance into the Canadian Sports School Hockey League (CSSHL) and what it means for our student-athletes: access to play in a national league at an elite level, and expanded post-secondary school options through a broader network. Hockey Canada Board Chair Jonathan Goldbloom '72 (former SHS Board Chair and 2010 Speirs Medalist) kicked off the "Power Play" event remarking that hockey has certainly changed since he wore the Selwyn House jersey. Mr. Goldbloom said he was inspired by this new venture, especially as the CSSHL shares the same values as Selwyn House School–participation, academic excellence and citizenship. He encouraged the students to continue to have fun in this sport, one of Hockey Canada's goals for youth.
Director of Athletics Mike Maurovich and Head of Senior School Neil Banerjee gave an extensive presentation. Read the slide deck here.
Following the presentation, aspiring SHS-CSSHL players remarked, "I can't believe that our school has taken so many steps to make this possible for us." "I'm blown away by the dedication of the staff. We are so lucky!" One parent commented that both her sons (Grade 12 and Grade 6) are ecstatic about this opportunity. "My youngest son is especially excited as he can now look ahead and know that he could be part of this in the future."
