Class of 1974 Celebrates 50th Reunion at Selwyn House School

The Class of 1974 reunited at Selwyn House School for a memorable dinner, creating an atmosphere rich with nostalgia and celebration as they marked their 50th Reunion. The evening kicked off with a delightful wine and cheese reception, allowing guests to reconnect and reminisce before embarking on tours of the school, led by enthusiastic student tour guides.

As the sun set, the ambiance shifted to a warm, intimate atmosphere in Coristine Hall, where 21 Old Boys and six staff members gathered for a candle-lit dinner. The evening took a heartwarming turn when the Old Boys were invited to rise and sing the school hymn, a cherished tradition that sparked smiles and laughter, transporting them back to their days as students. In a nod to their fond memories of school lunches, the menu featured a special appetizer of pigs in a blanket.

Special gifts were presented to honour those who traveled the greatest distances to attend. Nick Hopkinson ’74 journeyed from the UK; David Bird ’74 came from Austria; and Michael Thau ’74 arrived from Germany.

Adding to the evening's enjoyment, Paul Monod ’74 organized a fun trivia game, collecting responses to lighthearted questions such as "Who was your favorite teacher?" and "What was your favorite food at school." He and Devkumar Sainani '74 co-presented the answers in a lively slideshow that closed out the evening on a high note.

The evening's success was largely due to the efforts of Tom Konigsthal ’74, who played a pivotal role in organizing this unforgettable event alongside Mark Culver ’74, who rallied their classmates. Tom set up a professional photo shoot area, allowing attendees to capture high-quality memories of the evening. As a highlight of the night, Tom was honoured for his remarkable 20 years of service on the Old Boys' Association's Board of Directors. Sharon Cozens, Director of Advancement, presented him with a heartfelt gift and delivered a beautiful speech, celebrating his significant contributions to the Old Boys’ community and acknowledging the incredible chapter he is closing.

The group also arranged several activities beyond the dinner at Selwyn House, maximizing their time together and strengthening their bonds.

Here's to the Class of 1974 and the many cherished memories they continue to create together!
