National Day for Truth and Reconciliation 2024

Today is National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. This day provides an opportunity to recognise and reflect on the legacy of colonialism and the residential school system in Canada. Over the past month, Selwyn House has been selling orange shirts featuring a Two Row Wampum, with all proceeds going to an Indigenous organisation that will be chosen by our Indigenous Student Committee.. Today students donned orange-coloured attire to honour Phyllis (Jack) Webstad’s (Stswecem'c Xgat'tem First Nation) experience at residential school.

Last week, Selwyn House welcomed back Tioniatarishon Jacobs to share the history and culture of Kahnawá:ke. He showcased various objects and provided Kanien’kéha language lessons to students in both the Elementary and Senior schools. Thank you for sharing your ways of knowing with us!

A special shoutout to Ms. Schwartz, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion and Global Education Coordinator, for organising impactful workshops for both students and staff.
