Grade 9 Student a Rising Karate Star
On August 30, Simon I., a new Grade 9 student and brother of recent graduate David Ihaza, Pre-U '24, performed admirably at the Pan American Junior Karate Championship, defeating several formidable opponents, including the top athlete from the host country, Brazil.
Although he narrowly lost his quarterfinal match to the former champion from Mexico in the final seconds, despite leading throughout, he had hoped to showcase Selwyn House's motto, Veritas, on the podium.
Simon remains one of the top contenders to represent Canada at the upcoming 2026 Summer Youth Olympic Games in Dakar.
