A Melodic Fusion: 2024 Music Cabaret

The annual Music Cabaret concert was an awesome night of musical performances attracting a full house in Coristine Hall on May 2. Over 100 student performers from all the Selwyn House School bands, spanning Grade 6 through Grade 11, graced the stage. Selwyn's Senior Jazz Band also joined forces with ECS' Jazz Band for a combined SHS/ECS Jazz Band performance.

 

The evening kicked off with the Grade 6 concert band, showcasing the entire graduating class, who wrapped up their set with "Sultans of Swing" by Dire Straits. Following them, the Grade 7 and Grade 8 jazz bands performed separately and together as the Jr. Jazz Band, offering a mix of pop, rock, and jazz classics. Throughout the event, several student-led rock bands and soloists belted out energetic renditions of popular tunes, adding to the diverse musical lineup.

 

Selwyn's Sr. Jazz Band concluded the concert with a solid set of jazz standards, including "Bud’s Blues" by Bud Powell and "Manteca" by Dizzy Gillespie, leaving the audience impressed with their great solos and tight ensemble performances.
