Gryphons Reach CSSHL Final in Historic Inaugural Season
In their inaugural season in the CSSHL, the Selwyn House Gryphons prep team competed at the highest level in the school's history. After beating crosstown rivals Kuper Academy and LCC in playoff action, the Gryphons competed in the finals of the U17 CSSHL Eastern Championships on Sunday, March 23 at JC Perreault Arena in St-Roch-de-l'Achigan, facing off against #1 seeded Stanstead College. Despite a hard-fought effort, they fell just short in a 3-1 defeat, with Stanstead’s third goal coming in an empty cage.
More than just teammates, these players have built a brotherhood, representing Selwyn House with pride on the national stage. We sincerely thank the parents, coaches, and physiotherapists for their unwavering support. We are also thankful to everyone who contributed to the Old Boys' Trip Fund and the Gryphon Fund—your generosity ensures that financial barriers do not prevent our athletes from competing at this level.
Coach Mike Baslyk, Head of Hockey, shared his thoughts on his first season with the Gryphons: “After battling through adversity through most of the season, this team showed its true colours when it mattered most in the playoffs. It was a testament to the players' year-long sacrifice, commitment to detail, and strength of bond. They played their hearts out in the finals and deserve credit for representing the Gryphon crest with pride and honour. Returning players told us after the game that we will be back at this same stage next year, already forecasting even better things to come. All in all, it was a successful first season in the CSSHL, but it’s just a start of what the program wants to accomplish.“
